Swaby’s Tae Kwon Do Academy

Ages 7 to 12

Kids Taekwondo.

This is where it gets real. Kids learn the kicks, blocks and forms of Taekwondo, then put them to work sparring in helmets and chest protectors with an instructor right there. And Swaby’s students take it to the tournament floor at WMAF events.

Spar day

Inside a Kids class

Sharper. Higher.
Faster.

Seven to twelve is when kicks start to look like Taekwondo. An hour in a Kids class builds technique one piece at a time, then puts the pieces together.

Technique

Kick higher

Front kicks, roundhouse kicks, side kicks. An instructor works with one student at a time on the chamber, the pivot and the follow through, until the kick goes where they meant it to.

Pad work

Hit a real target

Kicks land on a pad held by an instructor, with power and with aim. Nothing builds a kid’s confidence quite like the sound of a clean kick.

Forms

Learn the patterns

Forms are set patterns of blocks, strikes and kicks, done from memory. They train precision and focus, and they are the event students perform in white doboks on the tournament floor.

Sparring

Put it together

Helmets on, chest protectors on, and an instructor watching. Sparring is where timing, distance and nerve come into it, and where a lot of kids find out they love this.

What they learn

Built for 7 to 12.

The age when kids want a real challenge, and want to be good at something. Kids Taekwondo gives them both.

Kicks

The kicks Taekwondo is known for, trained for height, speed and power.

Blocks

Reading what’s coming and getting a hand or forearm in the way.

Forms

Patterns done from memory, sharp and in order, the same way every time.

Sparring

Timing, distance and staying calm with a partner in front of you, in full gear.

Focus

An hour of paying attention, because the next drill builds on the last one.

Grit

Missing a kick, getting back in stance and throwing it again until it lands.

Tournament floor

Ready for more?
There’s a team.

Swaby’s students compete at World Martial Arts Federation tournaments: forms in white doboks, sparring in red and blue gear, and trophies to bring home.

The belt path

Rank by rank,
toward black.

In Taekwondo, the belt around a student’s waist shows how far they’ve come. Every Kids student is working toward the next one, with black belt as the goal at the end of the road.

My child has never done a martial art. Is that okay?

Yes. Every student at Swaby’s started with a first class. The free class is a real class, so your child gets a feel for it alongside kids their own age.

Is sparring safe?

Sparring at Swaby’s is done in helmets and chest protectors with an instructor watching. Taekwondo is a contact sport, and the gear and supervision are there so kids can train it with confidence.

What should they wear to the free class?

Comfortable clothes they can move and kick in. No uniform is needed for the first visit, and Taekwondo is trained barefoot on the mats.

When are Kids classes?

When you send the form you’ll pick a class time on the next screen. Enrolled students and families see the full class schedule in the Student Portal.

How much does it cost?

The first class is free. Ask about membership when you come in, or call (781) 364-7027.

Do they have to compete in tournaments?

Swaby’s students compete at World Martial Arts Federation tournaments. If your child is interested, ask Master Swaby about it when you visit.
